Why we gave up floral foam

Floral foam is a plastic that never breaks down. We arrange everything in chicken wire, moss and jars instead, and the flowers like it better.

Green floral foam is easy to use, and that is the only good thing about it. It is a plastic that crumbles into microplastics and never goes away.

What we use instead

A ball of chicken wire in a bowl holds stems just as well, and you can reuse it for years. For big pieces we use moss on a frame; for tables, lots of small jars.

The flowers like it

Stems in water drink better than stems in foam, so arrangements last longer. Every wedding we do goes back into the compost heap, except the wire, which goes back into the shed.
